Toward ultrahigh-purity aluminum

We began to consider, "What kind of metal is aluminum really?"

This question arose when we learned that most of aluminum (alloys) we were dealing with were based on aluminum with a purity of 99.7%. High-purity aluminum is produced by refining the 99.7% aluminum. High-purity aluminum has the potential to take advantage of the original properties of aluminum. We call materials with a purity of 99.999% (5N) or higher among high-purity aluminum as ultrahigh-purity aluminum. A purity of 99.999% (5N) has already been used mainly in the electronics field such as sputtering target materials and vapor deposition materials. A purity of 99.9999% (6N) is also beginning to be used in some cutting-edge fields. As for ultrahigh-purity aluminum with a purity of 99.99999% (7N), the purification process itself is in the development stage. We are working on ultrahigh-purity aluminum aiming at this region of a purity of 99.99999% (7N).
