Cleavage of glycols

• The reaction of cyclic cis-glycol proceeds smoothly, diketone is obtained in good yield.
  Catalytic amount of iodobenzene accelerates the reaction and improves the yield.
• Trans-isomer which is usually resisted to this type of reaction can also be applied for the oxidative cleavage by SHC5, high yield is obtained in the absence of any catalysts.
