Sodium hypochlorite manufacturing line to be newly constructed

Nippon Light Metal Company Ltd. (President: Takashi Ishiyama; Main Office: Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo) has decided to construct manufacturing lines for sodium hypochlorite satisfying the super-high grade standard (JWWA K120: 2008-2) of the Japan Water Works Association in our Kambara plant (Kambara, Shimizu-ku, Shizuoka City, Shizuoka Prefecture) to deal with the increase in demand for high quality sodium hypochlorite used for disinfection and sterilization of city water, food, and beverages.

The quality standard for city water restricted bromic acid content to 0.005 mg/l or less and chloric acid content to 0.6 mg/l or less in April 2004, and the restriction on chloric acid content was reinforced in April this year as 0.4 mg/l or less.

In recent years, since many customers of our company have required the supply of products conforming to this Standard and we have patented technology that enables the significant reduction of contents of both bromic acid and chloric acid in comparison with the conventional technology, we have decided to manufacture a super-high grade product in order to satisfy the requirement of the market.

The manufacturing line for the super-high grade product is expected to be completed at the end of October 2011.

NLM promotes sales activities for the water and sewage bid season in FY 2012 and promotes the exploration of demand by customers in the private sector focusing on food and beverages.

  <Sodium hypochlorite>
  Sodium hypochlorite manufactured by NLM using chlorine and sodium hydroxide produced in our Kambara chemical plant as raw materials has been so far widely used as disinfectants for water and sewage and swimming pool water, disinfectants conforming to food additives in beverage and food plants, as well as oxidants, neutralizers, bleaching agents for paper pulp, etc.
